The EELQMS guidelines are summarized, but each of the constituent elements specifies detailed requirements that must be followed during the design, development, manufacture, or marketing of engine lubricants. The lubricant marketer is responsible for meeting the requirements of each constituent element of EELQMS. The main elements of EELQMS are ACEA European Oil Sequences 2, which set the minimum performance specifications for lubricants used in different automotive engine categories, ATC Code of Practice 3, which describes processes for engine testing, compliance and audit, the reporting of test data, and the use of additive-specific formulation modifications, to support ACEA performance claims. ATIEL Code of Practice 4 provides oil formulation guidelines for the development and marketing of lubricants that meet ACEA performance requirements. CEC6 and ASTM5 test methods provide globally recognized standardized lubricant test methods.
